The Cayman Islands host many diverse and exciting activities that suit every age group. In addition to world-class beaches, duty-free shopping and a national museum, there are also fascinating wildlife encounters and, of course, a range of water sports. These activities and attractions make the Cayman Islands – especially Grand Cayman, the largest of three islands – a must-visit for a fun family trip.

Whether you are on a weekend escape or a week-long trip, the myriad things to do in the Cayman Islands will ensure you have an amazing time. Below are some of the activities you and your kids can enjoy together while you explore the best of Cayman.

  • See Wildlife and Marine Life

Engage your child’s curiosity by visiting some of the attractions where you can see a variety of creatures. Take a boat tour to Stingray City and Starfish Point or visit the Cayman Turtle Centre.

See, feed and swim with the gentle stingrays, with a guide, at Stingray City. This shallow sandbar is perfect for children. Wade into the warm water and learn all about these unique fish. Starfish Point, another shallow sandbar, allows for an up-close look at  numerous starfish, both on the sand and in the clear water.

Have an unforgettable turtle encounter at the Cayman Turtle Centre, a 20-minute ride from Stingray City. It is one of the largest land-based attractions in the Cayman Islands. You can view turtles, nurse sharks, tarpon, barracuda, a large, saltwater crocodile and some very colourful Caribbean birds, as well as stroll through a butterfly park on the grounds.

  • Horseback Riding on the Beach – and in the Water

How about a horseback ride on the beach? Led by guides from local stables, you and your children can ride along the beach, and depending on the ages of your children, you can also ride into the ocean on well-trained horses that know how to swim. The guides match horses with your size and ability, and the best part – absolutely no riding experience is necessary to enjoy this memorable activity.

  • All About the Beach

Sit back and relax while the calm water laps near your beach chair, or sign up for a variety of water sports with one of the vendors along beautiful Seven Mile Beach. Your children will love building sandcastles, snorkeling in the warm, shallow water or just splashing around in the sea. Be sure to stay for the mesmerizing sunset as the sun appears  to melt into the ocean as  you gaze out over the horizon.

  • Learn about Cayman Islands Heritage and Culture

Cayman Islands history and heritage are on display at the National Museum in downtown George Town, the capital of Grand Cayman. The museum features 8,000 items and artefacts, including prints, timepieces, musical instruments and fossils. Learn about Cayman’s turtling history, the islands’ ropemaking techniques and other of its traditional arts and crafts, including storytelling, candy-making and thatch-plaiting.

With so many promising places to visit and exciting activities to take part in, your Grand Cayman excursion will ensure a memorable time for you and your children as you explore the many treasures Cayman has to offer.
